Staley and I were playing together in her playroom while Zach made lunch in the kitchen. (For those of you who haven't been to our house, the playroom is just one room away from the kitchen, easily within ear shot.)
Staley: "Let's get out my princesses."
Me: "Why don't you go ask Daddy if lunch is almost ready first so we know if we have time to get out more toys."
Staley: (running into the kitchen) "Daddy, is lunch almost ready?"
Zach: "Just about."
Staley: (running back to the playroom) "He said we can play for a little bit."
Me: "Is that what he said? Why don't you go ask him if we have time to play more."
Staley: (running back into the kitchen) "Daddy, do we have time to play more?"
Zach: "Nope. Lunch is almost ready. It's time to wash your hands."
Staley: (running back into the play room) "Daddy said we should wash all my princesses hands."
I don't know if you call it reading between the lines or hearing what you want to hear or just taking some creative liberties with the script. Whatever you want to call it, it made me laugh.
