Track: Adelie Edition

After a fun cross country season, Adelie was very excited to run her first season of track.  She had initially thought she might like to try pole vault, but once the season started, she decided to just focus on her running events.  Like Staley, she settled on running the 800, 1600, and 4 X 400.

Adelie had a great first track season.  Her 1600 PR was a 6:09 and her 800 PR was a 2:46.

Also like Staley, she loved her friends on the track team and enjoyed hanging out at the meets.

Highlights of the season including winning both the 800 and the 1600 at the Pontiac Invitational and running her 800 PR at sectionals.

She ran both the mile and the 800 at sectionals, placing 4th in the mile and 7th in the 800 while scoring points for her team.

Adelie consistently improved throughout her first track season, ran good times, won a few races, and had a lot of fun along the way.  Success!!

Track: Staley Edition

Both Staley and Adelie finished up their track seasons in May.  Both girls had successful seasons, running personal best times and improving in their events.  

Staley loved being part of the track team.  Most of her favorite friends from cross country were the girls that she trained with and hung out with during track season as well.

Staley ran a variety of races throughout the season including the 4 X 400, 4 X 800, 800, 1600, and 3200.

Her best times throughout the season were a 1:07 split (400), 2:35 (800-a new PR), 5:51 (1600-a new PR), and 13:20 (3200-a new PR).

A highlight of her season was making the sectional team and running her 1600 PR at sectionals to win her heat and place 8th, scoring a point for the team as they went on to win the sectionals meet.

After a disappointing cross country season, a diagnosis of low ferritin, iron infusions and supplements, and hard work all winter long, it was so nice to see Staley feel good, race well, and run new PRs.  She loves running, she loves her teammates, and it was a good season.

May...All the Things

The end of the school year was a little hectic with end of school year activities and track and Annie, but not having kids at the grade school really kept our May a bit more mellow than typical.  I feel like there are generally lots of end of the year activities at the grade school, but less of those "extras" at the other two schools.  So although we did have plenty of activities during the end of the year crunch, it felt more manageable than our usual.

Between middle school and high school track meets, we had 3-4 meets every week.  Track will have its own post, but it needs to be mentioned here as it was a big part of our May.

Adelie and some of her friends worked hard on their World Day booth for school.

Jaci, Stella, Sadie, and Adelie worked hard on their research, their bulletin board, their pamphlets, and their churros to represent Spain.  They did a great job!

It's always good to spend time with family.

Briggs played in his end of the year band concert, and we attended Adelie's end of the year chorus concert as well.  Staley had to drop chorus for her last quarter for driver's ed, so that decreased our end of the year school music commitments by one.

Briggs "graduated" from the DARE program with his class.  His group was one of the groups chosen to perform their original DARE song.  It was great!!  Although do we really need to be celebrating our middle schoolers not doing drugs?  I feel like that's maybe an expectation.

As a parenting fail, we did not attend Adelie's award ceremony.  She got awards for straight A's, top 5 AR points for reading, MAP growth, student council, and she had the top reading MAP test score for her entire grade.  Even though we weren't there to see her get her awards, we are so proud of her hard work.  Staley chose not to attend the EHS awards night, but she also got an award for straight A's.

There were also a few graduation parties to attend.  Reagan was one of Staley's favorite senior runners from cross country and track.

We celebrated the last day of school with all the kids having some friends over.  Adelie hung out with Everly, Anna, Stella, and Annaleise.

Briggs invited Freddie and Bryli.  I did not get a picture of Staley and her "friend" as it was also sort of a date.  Trying my best to not be an embarrassing parent.

It was a good May, but the kids were all ready to say good-bye to the school year and hello to summer vacation.  Here we go...
