End of the School Year

School ended.  Summer began.  Vacations have already been taken, camp has been attended, things have happened.  Unfortunately, I haven't kept up with blogging any of it.  In order to catch up, I'll need to back track all the way to those last few weeks of the school year.  Even though it's a month in the past now, I still vividly remember that end of the school year crunch with track and performances and special activities and school projects that get crammed into those last several weeks of school.  So here goes...

Briggs got to participate in the We Love America program.

He and Mikayla from his class painted the set piece for "spacious skies" in 'America the Beautiful' and got to present it during the song.  I thought they did such a good job!  I asked if it was paint by number, and he said they just painted it free-hand from looking at a picture.  Impressive!

It's always a cute program, and Briggs did a great job knowing all his songs and marches.  Zach participated in the We Love America program when he was in 3rd grade at Davenport, so 3/5 of our family have now been a part of it.  (I was not living in Eureka in 3rd grade, and Staley's class missed it due to Covid.)

Staley's quarter-long work for the World Day program at her school took a lot of time and effort, but she learned a lot about Afghanistan and her group's booth turned out great.

Although the naan bread she and Kaitlyn made wasn't quite as flat as it maybe should have been, it was still really yummy.  And this picture will be a good remembrance of why I now have 6 white heat marks on my table, all oval in shape and evenly spaced.

There was a chorus concert (on the same night at the same time as We Love America, of course)...

more backstage teching and performing for the rest of the Alice shows...

and lots and lots of track.  (It will be its own post.  Stay tuned.)

We celebrated spring/summer birthdays and Mother's Day with Zach's side of the family (2/3 of the family has birthdays between March and June)...

and then we celebrated some more with my side of the family.  Time with family is always a highlight!

The girls had their end of the year awards ceremony for the middle school.  Adelie got awards for straight A's and being one of the top 5 for reading points throughout the year.  (She and her best friend Stella were #2 and #1.)

Adelie also got the award for Mrs. Baner's outstanding student of the year for ELA.  What an honor!!  Each teacher picks one student to present their award to, so there were only 7 of these awards for the whole grade.

Staley also got awards for straight A's, map growth, and was Mr. Heider's outstanding student of the year for pre-algebra.

Because there wasn't enough stuff already in the schedule, I also attended Adelie's Mother-Daughter luncheon and puberty talk one day and her Dare graduation another day.  Adelie's group got to perform their rap about drinking, drugs, stress, and bullying for the graduation ceremony.  (Not sure why we need a whole ceremony to celebrate our 5th graders not doing drugs, but no one asked my opinion.)

Briggs and his friend, Freddie, performed in the 3rd and 4th grade talent show.  We planned our whole summer vacation dates to make sure Briggs would be there for the talent show since he'd been talking about it and planning for it almost the entire year.

Over the course of a number of months, they got together to free build this Lego castle every Tuesday after school for an hour.  They displayed their castle for the talent show.  They wrote and memorized a script where they talked about the process of building their castle.  I loved how hard they worked and planned to get ready for the talent show.

The end of the school year is always a lot.  There are so many activities and performances and special projects and fun days.  The schedule is full, but it's full of good stuff.

All 3 kids had a great year!  They liked their teachers, loved having time with friends, learned a lot, grew a lot, and all got to do and try new things.  Staley loved getting to do chorus and school sports.  Adelie thrived at the middle school, and her circle of friends grew exponentially as she grew close to kids from Goodfield and Congerville.

We closed out the school year with a bang doing ALL THE THINGS.  And although it was a great year, we were all ready for summer.
