Saturday was a beautiful day! Mid-morning, as Zach and I started discussing what to do with our day as a family, we made some plans to surprise the kids with a day of outdoor fun. To avoid unwanted opinions and any grumbling that might accompany a plan that was not theirs, we titled our day 'Epic Family Day' and kept each activity a surprise until we got to where we were going. We ended up making a few decisions on the fly, but had a great, fun, full, surprise filled, epic family day.
We started our day of fun at Bicycle Safety Town for some family bike riding.
We then grabbed lunch at Culver's. Because it was epic family day, we ate our ice cream first so it wouldn't melt on our way to Glen Oak Park where we enjoyed the sunshine and fended off the bees while eating the rest of our lunch.
Since the weather was beautiful and we were already in Peoria, we called an audible and added in a quick trip to the Peoria Zoo before moving on to our next planned activity.
After biking, eating, and zooing, we finished off our outdoor fun with a 3 mile hike at Farmdale Reservoir. But that wasn't the end of epic family day. We headed home, took showers, and then topped off our day of family fun with pizza and movie night. Our empty week-end schedules have provided lots of time for family fun. Epic family day was no exception.
