Fighting Fatigue

With the smaller social circle, the shorter school days, and the limited activities we are participating in, our days open up for other activities.  The best way to fight this COVID fatigue is to find activities that bring us joy.  We still do LOTS of reading and play family games and generally have a family movie night every week-end.  We have had some outdoor play dates with friends and have spent time with cousins and have gone to a few cross country meets.  We have enjoyed family bike rides and family walks.  We have done some fun school projects and lots of writing and crafting.  Staley and Adelie are both working on writing chapter books, while all 3 kids have been busy making perler bead creations.  We have been finding ways to fill our days and enjoy this slower-paced season of life.

The kids put on a lemonade stand.  I love our neighborhood as almost all the neighbors on our side of the street came down to buy some lemonade from them.

We have done lots of reading.

Adelie found 4 monarch caterpillars and built a caterpillar habitat for school.

Staley created a diorama of 'Little Women' for a school project.

Briggs has been working really hard on his reading skills.  He does really well identifying some sight words and sounding out simple words he doesn't know.

Zach took the kids fishing for a few hours out at Eureka Lake.

We planned a spur of the moment day trip to the St. Louis Zoo over Labor Day week-end.  We bounced the kids out of bed around 5:15 in the morning to drive down for a fun day at the zoo followed by a picnic lunch in Forest Park.

Although there were obviously some changes to the experience, we had a great time seeing our favorite animals, riding the carousel, watching the sea lion show, and taking a few spins around the zoo on the train.

Life is different right now.  There is definitely some COVID fatigue setting in.  But we have been trying to find ways to combat the fatigue and enjoy our family time.
